Purpose of the Hiking Club Program

The Hiking Club gives Scouts and their families a fun way to get outdoors, explore nature, and build a love of hiking.

The Pack plans hikes throughout the Scouting year, typically once a month. Most hikes are 2–4 miles and are open to Scouts of all ranks, along with their families and siblings.

Scouts earn credit for each mile completed with the Hiking Club. After reaching 10 miles, they earn a hiking stick, with more milestones to celebrate along the way.

Come hike with us, enjoy the outdoors, and see how many miles you can complete!

Hiking Rules

  • Each Scout must have a parent or guardian hiking with them at all times. Siblings are welcome, but families should make sure younger children can safely complete the planned distance and keep pace with the group.
  • Arrive on time and sign in before the hike. The group will leave at the scheduled departure time.
  • Scouts should wear a Class A or Class B uniform shirt, comfortable clothing, and sturdy shoes with appropriate socks.
  • Each Scout must carry their own pack with the Cub Scout Six Essentials.
  • We hike together as a group, with adult leaders at the front and back. Everyone will follow the same trail, take breaks together, and stay between the designated leaders.
  • Only Scouts earn mileage awards and other Hiking Club rewards.
