Communication

Overview

Pack 545 communicates primarily via email, using two primary channels:

  • A weekly newsletter
  • Emails sent by uniformed leaders to the full pack, to specific dens, or to individual Scouts via Scoutbook

To ensure that our communications reach you, please sign up for both of these email channels using the instructions below. If more than one adult associated with your Scout would like to receive these emails, both adults can sign up individually.

Scoutbook

When you join pack 545 you are given a login to Scoutbook (https://scoutbook.scouting.org).

Scoutbook is a web-based tool which allows our pack to do the following:

  • Edit and view vital Information (names, addresses, phone numbers) of scouts, parents and leaders
  • Track completion of Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light requirements as well as other achievements and awards.
  • View a directory of the members of the pack.
  • Email den and pack members, and allow you to email leaders.
  • Share calendar layers for whole pack events and for each den (instructions to add calendar layers to your calendar).

The Pack uses Scoutbook’s email feature to let den leaders easily email all parents in the den, and to let the Cubmaster and other packwide leaders email parents across the full pack. At least one parent for each Scout must be linked to your Scout in Scoutbook, and that parent must not opt out of emails in Scoutbook.

To register a second parent to receive emails via Scoutbook, the second parent needs to register for an account at https://scouting.org, then navigate to https://scoutbook.scouting.org/ and click on My Account, then My Connections. At the top of the page you’ll see hyperlinked text reading “Connect to your Scout as Parent/Guardian” which you can click on, then provide the requested information. You’ll need your Scout’s member ID, which the first parent can find by viewing the Scout’s page in Scoutbook and sharing with the second parent. If you encounter problems with this process, please reach out to your den leader or to pack545membership@pack545.com for assistance.

In addition to email communications, the pack uses Scoutbook to track progress towards rank advancement. Typically your den leader will do this tracking for your Scout, but as a parent of a Cub Scout, you may also log into Scoutbook and update your Scout’s progress directly. This is a much simpler and quicker means than the old-fashioned way of tracking progress by marking it in a book, telling your den leader, the den leader tracks it in a spreadsheet, the den leader turns the spreadsheet into the Awards Chairperson, etc.

Pack Activities Newsletter

The Activities Coordinator sends out a newsletter via MailChimp to the entire Pack with news and information on upcoming events. This includes Pack-wide events, such as Hiking Club, Sleepovers, sporting events, etc., as well as BSA District Events. To receive this newsletter, please click the button on the Activities & Calendar page to request that your email be added to the distribution list. A link to previous newsletters is also available on that page.
